FAQ

What is an Agape Licensed Spiritual Practitioner ?

An Agape Licensed Spiritual Practitioner is a person dedicated to spiritual awareness, practice and service who has been licensed by the Agape International Spiritual Center after four years of study, service, training and apprenticeship.  As an practitioner, I am committed to living as an accepting and supportive space in which everyone has an opportunity to directly experience a transformative higher truth about themselves and their world.

What is transformation?

If you have ever felt lost while traveling through an unfamiliar neighborhood and then suddenly recognized where you were -- and experienced that shift when the unfamiliar and even threatening streets around suddenly you became familiar and welcome -- then you know what transformation feels like.  Nothing around you changed, but the meaning of everything changed instantly with the change in your awareness.

In the words of Albert Einstein, "You cannot solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it.  You must learn to see the world anew."  My intention is to facilitate that change in consciousness so that the issues you were struggling with can be seen in a completely different and more empowering light - or even disappear completely.

By adding a spiritual dimension to the counseling process, the door is opened for rapid and even instantaneous transformation.

What is spiritual counseling?

Spiritual counseling does not impose, or oppose, the beliefs of any religion, but relies on the wisdom that is at the heart of all religions.  It proceeds from an awareness of our fundamental wholeness and unity with the Divine in and as all things, and seeks to apply that awareness to our daily lives in concrete ways that work.  The entire universe conspires to your emergence as your Greater Yet To Be, and when we accept and tap into the power of that truth, everything and everyone becomes our ally in that process of emergence.

What if I don't believe in God?

We don't need to believe in electricity to turn on a light.  The principles of spiritual counseling correlate to developments in quantum physics, psychology, neurobiology, philosophy and other fields.  We use them because they work, not because religious authority told us to.

Many of us have been taught such distorted images of God, or have seen such harm done in the name of God or religion, that it's no wonder we reject anything that claims to be spiritual.  My invitation is to come see if there is a new and personal relationship you can forge with your universe.  Of course, if talk of anything beyond the concrete world around you makes you offended or uncomfortable, then spiritual counseling may not be for you.

What is a counseling session like?

We have a conversation based on what you want to achieve.  I ask questions aimed at your uncovering your own truth and wisdom.  I may at times explain a principle or suggest a reading or other activity, but all the answers that matter lie within you.  I begin and end each session with a prayerful invocation of your highest truth and bear witness to that truth throughout the session and between sessions.

The work is nonjudgmental and accepting:

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and right doing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.

      - Rumi

I begin and end every session with affirmative prayer to ground us in the Truth.

What is affirmative prayer?

It is a form of prayer in alignment with Spiritual Law.  Many of us have have learned to pray as if we are beseeching an unknowable and fickle deity for some god beyond our own power, or against some evil that threatens to overwhelm us.  Affirmative prayer stems from an awareness that we are one with the One to whom we pray and that the good we seek is already ours.   Miracles can and do happen out of affirmative prayer, beginning with the miracle of freedom from fear.

What is your fee?

I work on a sliding scale between $100 and $50 for a one hour session.  Half hour sessions are available at $65 to $30 an hour.  As consistency of awareness leads to more rapid growth, for clients who schedule regularly I also offer 10 to 15 minute "tune-ups" by telephone between counseling sessions at $1 per minute.

Clients can call me any time with a focused request for prayer free of charge.

How do I contact you?

You can schedule an evening or weekend session by calling me directly at 323-683-2517 or writing me at david@rightminding.com.
